Who is Jewelry Arts Inc?
The idea of Jewelry Arts began in the 1960s with painter and framemaker Robert Kulicke. Bob was fascinated by Etruscan granulation, Byzantine enameling and other methods of making ancient jewelry. He was dismayed to learn that only a handful of people knew the secrets of these ancient techniques and would not share them with others. Bob and his partner, Jean Starke, decided to research and rediscover this rare knowledge in order to bring it to jewelers and students everywhere. In 1974, their studio became Jewelry Arts Institute (now Jewelry Arts Inc). Today we continue to research and experiment, with the goal of sharing all we learn about endangered ancient jewelry-making techniques with metalsmiths around the world.
